The first palace of Blois was built in the 9th century. Later it was often extended and reconstructed. About 1500 King Louis XII initiated
the reconstruction to a Renaissance Palace with a large garden (which does not exist anymore).
Remarkable is the helix staircase in the main wing of the palace.

Blois was elected in 1498 by Louis XII to be the political center of France. The medieval castle became a delighted residence, which fitted in the new lifestyle of the French. The statue of Louis XII
adorns the main entry of Blois Castle.
